Parameters

The different elements of the ARRM interface have tooltips which indicate the functionality of each element. Just hover over it.

Likewise, you can click on the ? present on the different ARRM screens which will take you to the wiki associated with the buttons/forms and thus allow you to better understand their functionalities .

Roms and Overlays Directory

This can be a network directory (if you access your frontend by network):

or a local disk (if you access the memory card/disk of your frontend connected to your PC):

For ARRM to work with Retropie, the following paths must be respected on Retropie:
  • Roms should be in ~/RetroPie/roms/%system%/
  • The gamelist.xml should be in ~/RetroPie/roms/%system%/gamelist.xml

For Batocera, Recalbox and Retropie you can also indicate another temporary directory which will receive the generated overlays, but in this case you will have to copy/paste this content on your Box.

Remember to click on the 'V' buttons to validate the directories. The icons open the directory in your file explorer.

When this option is checked, ARRM overwrites gamelist.xml with the contents of gamelist_ARRM.xml, then loads the system having thus recovered all available tags.
If you open a system with this option checked, remember to save your gamelist.xml again via the Create gamelist.xml button before changing systems or leaving ARRM otherwise you will end up with a gamelist.xml containing all available tags
You can also find gamelist backups in the %appdata%\Nexouille soft\arrm\temp\backup\%systeme% directory.

General Options

Frontend choice

When you choose Retrobat or Batocera Plus, the Batocera checkbox will also be checked, as the systems have some common features with Batocera

If you experience slowdowns, please uncheck this Media Preview option and click the Media button in the ROM Information panel to display the Media Preview Form on each ROM.
To benefit from all the features of ARRM, it is advisable to activate the 4-frame mode
If your gamelist is already finalized, you can disable this option to speed up the loading of the gamelist in ARRM
Warning: this greatly slows down the loading of the gamelist.xml
If your gamelist is already finalized, you can disable this option to speed up the loading of the gamelist in ARRM

Folders

In this tab, you can configure the paths for each of the media (image, screenshot, boxart, wheel, cartridge, titleshot, map, fanart, manual, video)

it can be of the form:

Since version 1923 Beta 5 it is possible to configure the suffixes that you want to put at the end of recovered media files. Example :

By default the suffixes are:

It is possible not to add a suffix by leaving the textbox empty.

If you use a single folder for all your media, specify different suffixes so as not to overwrite your images.

When scraping media, these suffixes will be applied to the recovered media.

Use the scroll bar to access the rest of the media / suffix directories

Scrape options

The add disk checkbox now relies on the multi_part_add_disk.txt file to find and retrieve multi-disk information in the names of files

This file is located in

%appdata%\Nexouille Soft\arrm\database\multi_part_add_disk.txt

Content of file looks like this :

disc|disk|file|part|side|tape

Examples:

 Actraiser (Japan).zip,
Legend of Zelda, The (Europe) (Rev A).zip,
 Batman Forever (F) [!].zip

If you want to convert Recalbox .p2k files into Batocera compatible .keys files, I invite you to use the RecopierBox utility from Soaresden, which also offers other utilities for Recalbox/Batocera
When the option Ignore local search is unchecked, the section 'Local images considered as' appears. Here are those options:
  • Screenshot (checkbox): If this option is checked, when no image is returned by the scraper, the images, coming from other scrapers, found on the disk are automatically considered as a Screenshot and therefore the template is applied
  • Mix (checkbox): If this option is checked, when no image is returned by the scraper, the images, coming from other scrapers, found on the disk are automatically considered as already Mixed and therefore the template is not applied.
  • Ignore other scrapers (checkbox): During a 'Recompose image', if no image is entered in the database, you can ignore or authorize the local search for images from scrapers other than ARRM

If neither of the 2 options above (Screenshot or Mix) is checked, a popup (see image below) will ask the user to indicate if the image is a Screenshot or a Mix.

Images Options

Use the scroll bar to access the rest of the media directories
To benefit from all the features of ARRM, it is advisable to activate the 4-frame mode

You can select in the combobox (Choose the image TAG you want) the image that will be assigned to the image TAG and which will be the one used in your frontend (Recalbox, Batocera, Retropie etc) to represent the game.

The combobox allows you to choose between these different media:

Be careful when you select one of the elements (except MIX, MIXRBV1, MIXRBV2), the media in question will be checked automatically in the Force Media Download section
By selecting NONE as image TAG, no image will be assigned to the TAG Image. The 'No image, only texts' checkbox will be checked. The 'Enable 4-picture mode' mode will also be disabled. However, you can force the recovery of certain images by clicking on the images you want in the 'Force Media Download' section.

For Screenscraper and Launchbox, you can associate these Media with those used on Screenscraper and Launchbox. See Screencraper media assignment in ARRM and Launchbox media assignment in ARRM

If the '4 images' option is activated, the 4 images will be recovered (Screenshot, Body, Marquee, Cartridge) but only the one indicated in the combobox (Choose the image TAG you want) will be the default image of the game in the frontend (tag: image).

By default ARRM recovers game images in the versions corresponding to the language selected on the interface (except Russian which is not present on Screenscraper). however, it is possible to change the search order via the form 'Media allocation 'Screenscraper' + Media order' . See this chapter: Assignation of Screenscraper media in ARRM

Overlays / Bezels

The coordinates of the viewports are calculated according to the chosen resolutions. These options also apply to the recovery of system overlays.

If Batocera or Retrobat have been selected as Frontend, the bezel file will be copied to the directory defined in the Folders tab and written to the gamelist.xml with the tag <bezel>

Mix Template

Force media download

If you want to force the recovery of other media/tags during scraping, you must force their recovery by checking the desired media below. (They will also be written in the gamelist)

associated with Extra1 makes it possible to display the arcade marquee in templates presenting arcade terminals. Extra1 will not appear in the gamelist, because ARRM checks if it is present in the directory dedicated to Extra1

. This feeds the 'Mix' Tag in the gamelist.xml

If you want to retrieve only one or more of these items from the 'Force Media Download' section, just check one or more of these items and check the box 'Not image, only the texts'. When scraping, only textual information and checked media will be recovered.

If all of these four media (Boxart, Screenshot, Cartridge, Wheel) are empty following a scrape, the placeholder images will not be used

Configuration Files

Different aliases for the indicated systems

As of ARRM 1917 Beta 9, you can now specify system names that match Arcade, PC/DOS, ScummVM, Daphne/Singe. (used by ARRM for processing specific to these systems). Useful if your system folders don't match arcade/pc/dos/scummvm/daphne/singe. Items must be separated by a ; These system lists are used when loading gamelists as well as when checking names, as well as for other ARRM internal processing. of arcade. When you modify the textboxes, a configuration file is updated;
